Just a Country Girl At Heart
After growing up in eastern Nebraska, my husband had an opportunity to move to California with his company and I said "Why not? We'll never get there otherwise!" He was shocked as were my parents but we've never regreted it. We love the change of seasons, on milder note than the midwest, and being two hours from the mountains and snow if we desire or two hours from the beach and great Pacific Ocean. What more could you want? It's been wonderful! Our church family is very close to us - plus the many friends in the community through Habitat for Humanity, Mercy Medical Center Volunteers, the Merced Hostel Society and we share our home with travelers - hostellers from all over the world. I worked as a school secretary for 26 years, and Larry in the printing business and in later years he worked as a Handyman for himself and uses all those talents for Habitat now. We're both retired and love volunteering in the community and at church. We love all the fresh fruit, make lots of homemade jam every summer to share with hostellers in the mornings, and Larry just picked our 7 oranges on our little dwarf tree in the backyard as we expect a possible frost tonight. My neighbor gives me lots of plums, another lemons, so we appreciate all the fruits and veggies that grow so abundantly in our area.
